The main thing that you will look at when you choose a career is whether or not you’ll like the job. Don’t forget to look at all of the tasks involved in the job before you make this important decision. Sometimes the extra tasks can make you decide not to do a career after all.

For example, you may want to go into social work. That’s probably because you like the idea of helping people. However, you have to know that there is a lot of paperwork involved in doing social work. You may also be asked to testify in court sometimes. If you don’t enjoy those tasks then you may not like this career after all.

Another example is the work of a teacher. You may love working with kids. However, if you don’t like planning and attending school events then you’re probably not going to enjoy the daily career of being a teacher after all.

To get a good idea of what a job is really like, you should interview people who are already doing that career. Ask them about those extra tasks. Ask them specifically what they like least about the job and why they think the job is worth it anyway. This will make it more likely that you’ll choose a career that you can do day in and day out.

You are absolutely correct. It is always better to take advice from a career counselor or a person involved in the same job type that you want to do. Learn about both the Pros and Cons of that particular job.
