Culinary Arts Programs: 3 Things to Look For

It might seem like the culinary arts is a pretty basic field, but in truth it requires a lot of education, specialized knowledge, and skill in order to be successful in the industry.  For this reason, you don’t want to skimp on your education if you want to pursue a culinary arts career.  Here are 3 important things to consider when looking for a Seattle culinary school.

  1. A good reputation. You don’t want a program that has a reputation for turning out bad cooks, of course, but neither do you want a program that no one has heard of.  The best culinary arts program for you is one that has a reputation among employers for making good chefs, as these schools will look the best on your resume — and get you the most jobs.
  2. State-of-the-art equipment. A good culinary school should also have good culinary equipment.  You want to learn on the best and the latest equipment.  This is a part of a high quality education that should not be ignored.
  3. Reliable student services. One of the most valuable student services a culinary arts program can offer is help finding a job after graduation.  Entering the work force for the first time can be extremely difficult, so programs with job placement services are worth their weight in gold.  Also, if you plan on working in the field while you are attending school, you might want to look for a school that provides job or internship placement services while you are enrolled too, and not just after graduation.

There are many culinary arts programs to choose from, and these are but a few ways to decide between them.  Think about what is most important for you in a cooking school, and use that criteria to judge the schools you look at!
