Interior Design as an Art or a Science

Pretend for a minute that someone you are making small talk with mentions that he got a degree in interior design from the Harrington College of Design. Quick - do you think that his degree is an arts degree or a science degree? No matter what you answered, you’re right (or you could be wrong). There are actually interior design degree programs that fall into both the arts and the sciences.
People who are interested specifically in pursuing artistic careers in interior design will most likely choose to get a fine arts degree in interior design. This is often a bachelor’s degree but could even be a Master’s degree in fine arts. These people will learn interior design from the eye of an artist and will learn about marketing and promoting as an artist. Many of these people will get jobs as designers.
In contrast, some people want to get jobs in the service of doing interior design for others. These people may be more interested in a science degree. An associates degree in interior design can provide these people with the right set of skills for doing interior design as well as for marketing themselves specifically as a business person with design skills.

I have an associate of applied science degree, but my program did focus on the art side of things too. I think many programs are trying to integrate both sides and it’s pretty successful.
yeah, it can be both. there are some basic formulas to follow but the main ingredient is going to be how good the designers eye is.
I just read how the Cincinnati School of Art is now offering a BA degree in Interior Design. Apparently, the industry is really moving forward.
Taking up interior design courses will require you not only your time, money and effort, it requires your passion of getting your work done.
